This breed arrived in Europe from Asia, and it was in Europe that its formation as a recognizable breed was completed. Different cultures gave the dog different names. The Dutch called it Mopshond, the Germans – Mops, the Spanish – Dogullo, the Italians – Caganlino, and in France the breed was called Carlin.
