This breed is not recognized by the AKC, but there are other registries that accept it; the first organization that registered the breed was the UKC. The breed standard was developed in 1994, but the breed includes so many variations that a strict standard is impossible. A rat terrier club will support the local rescues and be able to recommend a good breeder.
