This dog is quite susceptible to many illnesses. Red Setters often suffer from immune disorders, allergies, skin and ear infections, and epilepsy. They tend to bloat; therefore 2 to 3 small meals per day are much better than one big.

The Red Setter is well accustomed to apartment conditions, but he does better in the country. He loves daily training and exercise, and he is a born hunter.
