These dogs are natural hunters and require special care. They may run off chasing a small animal and loose he way back. Regular exercises and early obedience training are necessary to keep the dog in a good form.

These dogs have unknown ancestry, but excellent ability to track and tree raccoons. Such talents are reflected in the name of the breed. It is accepted by several registrations: CKC, AKC, UKC, NKC as the Hound group. The redbone coonhound rescue won't normally have puppies available.
