This breed is protective of the territory and of the owners. If properly socialized and trained, these dogs are steady and obedient, but some dogs may be dominant. Males are often territory; they make excellent guards and protectors. Females are more easy-going, but can be too aggressive when with puppies. This breed grows to the height of 27 inches at the withers and weighs up to 110 pounds. If mistreated or lacking obedience training, these giants can become difficult to live with. That’s why this breed is not recommended as a first-time pet for families with children.

These dogs are medium in size, powerful and very strong. Their appearance suggests confidence and agility. The accepted coat color is black with rust or mahogany markings. The coat is short, coarse and dense, lying close to the body; the undercoat is presented on neck and thighs. The chest should be broad and deep; the back is straight and well-muscled.
