These hounds are calm, trainable, courageous, and devoted to their owner and family. They are good as pets and companions for children. The breed was used in the 19th century as a guard hound and a watchdog; nowadays these hounds are also used as guards. The coat of the hound is very short therefore these hounds cannot live outside when the temperature is low. These are apartment creatures provided they get enough exercises every day. You should not take the hound of this breed if you have not got enough time for the canine.

Unfortunately, the rapid rise in popularity of the breed has attracted many irresponsible breeders who are profit-oriented and don't care what damage they do to the breed by producing unstable and potentially dangerous animals. Reliable breeders breed mostly for temperament and health. They breed the aggression out of the breed by culling the breeding stock of a medium quality. When properly bred, socialized, trained and taught to respect the owner, these canines are not inherently vicious. Irresponsible ownership and lack of necessary obedience training also contribute to the negative and aggressive image of the breed. Rottweiler dogs and puppies can be adopted from any rescue.
