This breed probably originated from the Italian Mastiff during the Middle Ages. First it was used for herding the cattle, but now it became very versatile and among the breed’s talents are tracking, guarding, carting, police work, obedience, watchdogging and many others. All main associations register this breed: CKC, FCI, AKC, UKC, KCGB, CKC, ANKC, NKC, and NZKC. These dogs possess kind and friendly personality, but are not good for everybody.
