Responsible breeders test the breeding stock and use only stable and gentle sires and dams before breeding. To prevent irresponsible ownership of such powerful dogs, serious breeders refuse selling their dogs to novice and unknowledgeable breeders.

The height of these dogs is from 24 to 27 inches at the withers; the weight varies from 100 to 130 pounds. Bitches are 22-25 inches at the withers and 85-115 pounds in weigh. These dogs are easily recognizable by their massive athletic body and large broad head. This breed appeared in Germany in the town of Rottweil. Its main aim was herding and guarding the cattle. Some people think that dogs of this breed are too aggressive and should be banned, but it is untrue, because much depends on the owner.
