These dogs have a double coat, which is hard and smooth; hair is slightly longer around the neck and form a brush under the tail, breeches and forelegs. The coat can be from very short to medium-length, but should not exceed 2 inches.

Dogs of this breed are small and fox-like, with wedge-shaped head, pricked ears, and rather short legs. The body is longer than the height of the animal; the chest is broad and deep enough with flat-sided or barrel-shaped ribs. The back curves slightly.
