Vizsla - Picture
The Vizsla originated in Hungary from the Transylvanian Hound and the Turkish Yellow dog. The name "Vizsla" means "pointer” in Hungarian. This hunting dog was almost extinct after World War I, but survived until World War II. When Russia took over Hungary, Vizsla owners feared that the Russians would decimate the breed because it was a sign of nobility. This prompted many people to send Vizslas to Austria and other countries to save the breed.
