These dogs originated in Hungary, and their predecessors were used as hunting companions yet back in the 8th century. Nowadays, there are two varieties of the breed: the smooth-coated and the wire-coated. The latter was produced by crossbreeding the smooth-coated dog with the German Wire Haired Pointer in the 1930s.
