These are small compact dogs with a lively temper. They have a narrow head and small ears that fold forward and create a “V” shape. There are two types of dogs in this breed which are identical in appearance except for the coat.

The breed was developed in England in the 1700s. These dogs were originally bred to hunt foxes; they also made great ratters. The breed was accepted by the American Kennel Club in 1885 as a breed with two varieties. Wirehaired fox terriers require special training; don't be attracted by their photos only.
