These dogs are wonderful family companions, and they get on very well with other pets. They never exhibit hostility toward strangers, and are very affectionate with children. Males are 22-24 inches high at the withers, and females stand 21-23 inches tall.

The Golden Retriever appeared after crossbreeding the Yellow Retriever with the Tweed Water Spaniel in the year 1868. This new dog was supposed to hunt wild game and birds, and was an excellent gun dog. He has never been used for guarding property. Puppy photos are overly cute; one of the reasons that puppies are so popular is becase they're adorable.
