The Golden Retriever is an offspring of the Yellow Retriever, and was produced by crossing the latter with the Tweed Water Spaniel. These dogs have a water-resistant coat, and they are superb swimmers. They were meant to be hunting dogs, and therefore are good at hunting, tracking, pointing and retrieving game.
